What Teaching on a Yoga Holiday Means to Me – And What It Could Mean for You Too
Have you heard?
I’m teaching in Turkey on a Yoga Holiday in October? It’s likely you have heard because I am so ecstatic to have been invited to teach in the beautiful Kalkan, Turkey, that I’ve been talking about it a lot.
When you hear the words yoga retreat, it’s easy to picture sunrise meditations, hours of practice, perfectly executed headstands and an itinerary so full that you may need another holiday from it.
That’s why this isn’t a yoga retreat, it’s a Yoga Holiday.
I genuinely believe that yoga should fit around your life; not the other way around and this is the ethos of the yoga holiday designed by Discerning Collection, and why I’m so excited to be joining as the teacher on this holiday
Yoga is for every body and so is this holiday
Over the years, I’ve met so many people who have told me they aren’t right for yoga.
They’re too stiff.
Too old.
Too busy.
Too self-conscious.
It’s either too much of something, or not enough of something else. Every time I hear it, I can counter with all the reasons why yoga really is for them, but the truth is yoga needs to be felt to be believed.
Yoga really is for every body!
Yoga was never meant to be reserved for the naturally flexible or the body confident. It’s always been a practice that meets you exactly where you are.
Whether you’re 25 or 75, whether you run marathons or spend most of your day behind a desk, whether you’ve practised for years or have never stepped on a yoga mat before, you always belong during yoga.
As an inclusive yoga teacher, that’s the heart of everything I do.
I don’t teach people to fit into yoga. I teach yoga to fit the person on the mat in front of me.
Which is…
…Why it was a ‘hell yessss’ to teach on this yoga holiday in Kalkan, Turkey
What appealed to me most about this experience is that it’s a holiday with yoga, not a jam-packed yoga retreat where every moment is filled.
Over the week you can join for two classes a day, one an invigorating morning practice to set you up for the day and an evening class designed to cool, calm and rejuvenate.
In between?
The day is yours.
Spend time by the pool.
Explore the beautiful sites of Kalkan.
Take a trip.
Read your book in the sunshine.
Treat yourself to a spa treatment.
Or simply do… less.
Because doing less is something many of us have forgotten how to do well.
You can join us exactly as you are
If you’ve ever avoided an opportunity like this because you’re worried that you’ll be the least flexible person in the room…
Or wondered if everyone else will know what they’re doing…
Maybe you’ve convinced yourself you’re “not a yoga person”…
I’d love you to know that you’re exactly the kind of person this yoga holiday is for.
You don’t need the perfect yoga wardrobe, mat or lots of experience.
You just need to want to move your body, breath in the sunshine and give yourself permission to slow down.
Everything else can unfold from there.
Why this week teaching in Turkey means so much to me
Teaching yoga has never been about helping people master so called advanced poses.
It’s only ever been about creating spaces where people feel accepted, able to move comfortably as themselves.
A place where you can breath and move without feeling judged.
Where movement is something to enjoy instead of something to achieve.
That’s why being invited to teach on this yoga holiday in Kalkan, Turkey means so much to me.
It’s an opportunity to share Yoga somewhere truly beautiful, surrounded by warm sunshine, incredible views and a group of people who are all looking for the same thing: a chance to pause, reconnect and head home feeling a little lighter than when they arrived.
If that sounds like something you’ve been craving, I’d love to welcome you to the mat in Turkey.
Exactly as you are. Because that’s always enough.
Joining me in Kalkan
