Why I quietly ghosted my own social media (And Why I’m Returning Slowly)

Towards the middle part of 2025, I quietly ghosted my Yoga business social media account.

Nothing dramatic happened. There was and remains no singular reason why. But something wasn’t feeling right.

I listened, and in the quiet I found an answer.

To stop. Not forever, just for now.

It was a conscious choice to protect my peace, and my ability to actually be present in my own life and my businesses.

For a small business owner, I was finding the pressure to show up online as noisy, demanding, and oddly invasive; it can become a constant low-level humming in the background of the mind.

So.

I didn’t announce anything.
I didn’t take a break “for a month”.
I didn’t post a final message explaining anything.

I just stopped.

Not because I stopped teaching.
Not because yoga stopped being important to me.

In many ways, the opposite was true.

And while it may have looked like I disappeared, a lot was quietly shifting behind the scenes.

With the additional time and mental bandwidth, I worked on the ways to better explain and advertise my expanded services of Pilates and Breathwork. It’s more than just offering ‘more’, instead it’s offering more of what matters.

I also find myself drawn more and more into supporting women through peri-menopause menopause. The deep work that requires presence, patience, and trust; all of which I found in the quiet.

Spring

[spring] , noun

a season of new beginnings, renewal and growth, a chance to start now.

And that shift got me thinking about how easy it is to drift through life slightly disconnected; constantly consuming, comparing, reacting — without ever really asking: is this how I want to feel?

So, if any of this resonates, here are a few things that helped me come back to a more intentional way of living:

Create small moments of quiet

We’re not talking about a full digital detox. Not a big dramatic reset. Just moments in your day where there is no input; no scrolling, no noise, no distraction.

Start with 10 minutes and be quiet enough to hear your own thoughts. No analysis or doubt just listening.

Notice what’s taking your attention

Your attention is one of your most valuable resources. Where it goes, your energy follows.

Start gently noticing:

  • What leaves you feeling calm?

  • What leaves you feeling tense, rushed, or “not enough”?

You don’t have to change everything overnight; noticing is a powerful first step.

Let things be unshared

Not everything needs to be posted, explained, or witnessed.

Some of the most meaningful parts of your life get to belong just to you.

What do you keep just for you?

Return to your body

This was a big one for me, and it’s at the heart of all the work I now do.

Whether it’s through Yoga, Pilates, breathwork, walking, or simply pausing to take a few slower breaths, your body can bring you back to the present moment far quicker than your mind ever will.

Redefine what “showing up” means

It doesn’t always have to look like being visible, productive, or consistent.

Sometimes showing up is:

  • Resting

  • Saying no

  • Taking a step back

  • Or choosing what matters most to you.

Which one feels right for you?

In a gentle way, you can shake the world
— Mahatma Gandhi

Stepping back has taught me something important: not everything meaningful needs to be witnessed to be real. Some of the most important times happen quietly in small rooms, in conversations, in the way someone leaves a class feeling more like themselves again.

Our attention is a finite resource. And we get to choose where it goes.

I’m sharing this now as I gradually return to my online community, same me but a little different.

I’m not coming back with a promise to be constant, polished, or always visible.

Social media is a tool, not an identity. A place for me to share what feels useful and true.

I teach yoga, Pilates, and breathwork in a way that supports real bodies and real lives. My work is increasingly rooted in supporting women through perimenopause and menopause by building strength, resilient nervous systems, and feeling more at home in your body.

If you’re here for slower, more grounded, more honest work — welcome.

Let’s begin together.

PS - For my fellow business owners who feel like the only way to grow is by sharing everything online, during this time my business continued to grow. So let this be a sign that if you’re feeling called towards a break from the online world, you do have a choice.
